The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Almighty Allah's Truth.
