The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
