The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
