He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
