The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
