Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 with a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
