He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
