The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
