Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 with a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And cups set at hand. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
