Yet Aaron had aforetime said to them, 'My people, you have been tempted by this thing, no more; surety your Lord is the All-merciful; therefore follow me, and obey my commandment!' 90 They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us." 91 [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; 92 From coming after me? Did you not disobey my command?" (And Moses pulled him by the hair). 93 "O son of my mother," (Aaron cried), do not pull me by my beard or my hair! I was really afraid you may say that I had created a rift among the children of Israel, and did not pay heed to your command." 94 Moses said, 'And thou, Samaritan, what was thy business?' 95 He answered: "I saw what the people did not see. So I took a handful of dust from the trail of the Messenger, and I flung it (into the fire). Thus did my mind prompt me." 96 (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" 97 Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge." 98 Thus do We relate to thee some stories of what happened before: for We have sent thee a Message from Our own Presence. 99 All who shall turn away from it will, verily, bear a [heavy] burden on the Day of Resurrection: 100 Abiding in this (state), and evil will it be for them to bear on the day of resurrection; 101 On the day the Trumpet is blown; and We shall muster the sinners upon that day with eyes staring, 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
