The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
