Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 This is (indicated) in the Books of earlier people. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 But hast thou ever considered [this]: If We do allow them to enjoy [this life] for some years, 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 of what avail will be the provisions of life which they have been granted to enjoy? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So do not call on any deity besides God, lest you incur His punishment. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And your movement among those who prostrate. 219 He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 The righteously striving believers among them who remember God very often and use their talent to seek help after they have been wronged are the exceptional. The unjust will soon know how terrible their end will be. 227
