The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
