The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
