Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
