The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
