We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided." 49 but when We relieved them of the torment, they broke their word. 50 And Firon proclaimed amongst his people: O my people! is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? And these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 He (Pharaoh) intimidated his nation, so they obeyed him, for they were a sinning nation. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
