The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners. 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 and behold, We let loose upon them a tempest which rained stones upon them, except upon Lot's household whom We rescued in the last hours of the night 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 “So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
