The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
