In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
