Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
