The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
