Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
