Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
