AND UNTO [the tribe of] Thamud [We sent] their brother salih He said: "O my people! Worship God alone: you have no deity other than Him. Clear evidence of the truth has now come unto you from your Sustainer. "This she-camel belonging to God shall be a token for you: so leave her alone to pasture on God's earth, and do her no harm, lest grievous chastisement befall you. 73 And remember when He made you successors after Ad and settled you in the land-- you make mansions on its plains and hew out houses in the mountains-- remember therefore Allah's benefits and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief. 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were stiff-necked said: verily we are disbelievers in that which ye believe. 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel, and they flouted the commandment of their Lord, and they said: O Salih! Bring upon us that thou threatenest if thou art indeed of those sent (from Allah). 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Then he turned away from them and said: O my people I did certainly deliver to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice, but you do not love those who give good advice. 79 And Lot! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you? 80 Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people. 81 And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves). 82 So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers]. 83 and We rained down upon them a rain. So look how was the end of the evildoers. 84
