The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
