The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
