The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
