The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
Almighty God's Truth.
