Have you not seen how your Lord lengthens out the shadow? Had He willed, He would have made it constant, but We have made the sun its pilot; 45 Then We draw it back to Us, withdrawing it little by little. 46 It is He who appointed the night for you to be a garment and sleep for a rest, and day He appointed for a rising. 47 And it is He Who sent the winds giving glad tidings before His mercy; and We sent down purifying water from the sky. 48 To quicken a region that was dead, and to give it as drink to animals We have created and to men in plenty. 49 And indeed, many times have We repeated [all] this unto men, so that they might take it to heart: but most men refuse to be aught but ingrate. 50 And if We had willed, We would have raised up in each town a warner. 51 hence, do not defer to [the likes and dislikes of] those who deny the truth, but strive hard against them, by means of this [divine writ,] with utmost striving. 52 ۞ And it is He Who has let free the two seas (kinds of water), one palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter, and He has set a barrier and a complete partition between them. 53 It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things). 54 Yet they worship instead of Allah that which can neither benefit them nor hurt them. The disbeliever was ever a partisan against his Lord. 55 We have sent you for no other reason but to be a bearer of glad news and warning. 56 Proclaim, “I do not ask any fee from you for this, except that whoever wills may take the way to his Lord.” 57 Have trust in God the Living, who will never die, and sing His hallelujas; for He is well aware of the sins of His creatures. 58 He who has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six aeons, and is established on the throne of His almightiness; the Most Gracious! Ask, then, about Him, [the] One who is [truly] aware. 59 And when it is said unto them: prostrate yourselves unto the Compassionate, they say: and what is the Compassionate? Shall we prostrate ourselves unto that which thou commandest us? And it increaseth in them aversion. ۩ 60
