Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they would be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
