A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
