The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
