The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
