Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
