Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
