Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
