Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
