The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 except those that pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from 28 who guard their privates 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
