The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
