The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, 1 By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers); 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 and vie with the others (in carrying out their Lord's behests); 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 The day on which the quaking one shall quake, 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 and their eyes will be humbled. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 What, when we are bones old and wasted?' 11 They say: that then shall be a losing return. 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 and say: "Will you purify yourself, 18 that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)." 19 And he showed him the greatest sign, 20 but he denied it as false and disobeyed, 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 and then he gathered [his great ones,] and called [unto his people,] 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
