He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
