Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Lord, pour patience upon us and let us die as submitters (Muslims)' 126
