The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
