The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
