Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
