The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
