The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
