a large group of the earlier people 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
