The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
